How to Get to Anguilla: Flights, Ferry and Sea Shuttle (2026)

There are two ways to get to Anguilla from the United States. The first is a direct flight to Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA): American Airlines flies non-stop from Miami (MIA) in roughly three and a half hours, and AnguillAir, operated by BermudAir, flies direct from Boston, Newark and Baltimore. The second is to fly to St. Maarten (SXM) and cross to Anguilla by sea, either on a sea shuttle from the airport dock or on the public ferry from Marigot. The crossing takes 20 to 30 minutes and lands at the Blowing Point Ferry Terminal. Villa Okeanos is 4.5 miles from the airport and 8 miles from Blowing Point, so you are at the villa about 20 minutes after you arrive in Anguilla either way.

Which airports offer a direct flight to Anguilla?

Non-stop flights to Anguilla land at Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport, airport code AXA, on the island of Anguilla itself. As of 2026 the direct options from the US are:

• Miami to Anguilla (MIA to AXA): American Airlines, about three and a half hours. This is the simplest way in. You clear US departures in Miami, land in Anguilla, and the journey is over. Flights from Miami are the route we recommend to anyone who can make the connection work.
• Anguilla from Boston, Newark and Baltimore: AnguillAir (BermudAir) flies direct on these routes, roughly four to six hours depending on the city. If you can catch this flight, we highly recommend it; it is a fantastic experience.

The trade-off with flying direct is flexibility. Each route runs on a limited schedule, so if the days do not line up with yours, the St. Maarten route below has far more connections.

Can you also fly to Anguilla from a neighboring island?

Yes. Anguilla is easily accessible from several Caribbean hubs, which helps if you are already in the region or want air and sea handled in one go:

• San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU): Tradewind Aviation and Seaborne Airlines fly to AXA from San Juan in about 50 minutes. Tradewind also serves Antigua.
• St. Thomas: Cape Air flies to Anguilla once daily.
• St. Maarten to Anguilla by air: the eight-minute hop from SXM to AXA runs via Anguilla Air Services or via Trans Anguilla, and is booked separately from your international flight.
• St. Kitts and the Dominican Republic: seasonal regional connections. Check current schedules before you book.

Private air charter into AXA is available from San Juan and other hubs, as a private charter or a shared air charter. It costs more, but for a group of eleven it can compare well with two sets of tickets.

St. Martin to Anguilla by sea: ferry or sea shuttle?

Most of our guests from Europe, Canada and US cities without a Miami connection are flying into St. Maarten. Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) is one of the best-connected airports in the Caribbean, and St. Maarten’s flights to Anguilla by sea are the part people worry about most. They should not. Getting to Anguilla via St. Maarten is routine, and there are two ways to cross the six-mile channel between Anguilla and St. Maarten, shared or private.

Option A: sea shuttle from the SXM airport dock

The airport dock is directly across the street from the arrival hall at Princess Juliana Airport. Calypso Charters, Funtime Charters and GB Express run a shared sea shuttle service from there to Blowing Point in Anguilla. When you exit the arrival hall, an agent will assist with your luggage and walk you to the boat. The boat ride to Anguilla takes about 25 minutes, and boats operate from roughly 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The Anguilla Tourist Board lists fares from US$65 per person one-way, plus a departure tax of US$36 for adults and children 12 and over (lower rates for younger children). Some operators quote a round trip with the tax included and some add it at the dock, so ask whether tax will be added, whether the first two pieces of luggage are included, and what an additional piece of luggage costs. A private boat transfer with the same operators can meet your flight and wait if it is late. It costs more than the shared boat, but it removes every bit of timing anxiety, which matters if you are arriving late or travelling with children. We can arrange this for you as part of your booking.

Option B: taxi to Marigot, then the public ferry

The public ferry is the cheapest way across. From SXM, take a taxi to the Marigot Ferry Terminal on the French side. The taxi takes about 20 minutes and costs around US$25 to US$35. Ferries depart Marigot for Blowing Point roughly every 45 minutes through the day. The one-way fare is US$30 for anyone 12 and older and US$20 for children under 12, and a departure tax of US$28 per adult is paid at the terminal prior to boarding. The crossing is about 30 minutes. It is perfectly fine, and for many guests the ferry is part of the experience. Ferries run the same way back from Anguilla to St. Martin on your last day.

Which should you pick? If you land after 3:00 pm, are carrying a lot of luggage, or have children with you, take a sea shuttle from the airport. If you land mid-morning and want to spend less, take the ferry. Either way, leave a real buffer after your flight. Do not book the last boat of the day against a tight connection. An hour of slack costs nothing and saves everything.

What happens when you arrive in Anguilla?

Anguilla is a British Overseas Territory and the immigration process is calm and quick, whether you land at Lloyd Airport or at Blowing Point. Everyone arriving by sea must clear customs and immigration at the ferry terminal. Have your passport (valid for at least six months), your return or onward ticket and your accommodation details ready, and you will be through in minutes. Porters and van drivers at the terminal work for tips, so keep a few small bills to hand.

Upon arrival, your rental car or taxi will be waiting. The island is 16 miles long and 3 miles wide, so nothing is far. From the airport it is 4.5 miles to Villa Okeanos and the last stretch opens onto the water above Shoal Bay East. From Blowing Point it is 8 miles.

Do you need a car in Anguilla?

Not strictly. Taxis are easy, and the beach, beach bars and a dozen restaurants are minutes from the villa. But the island is small and lovely to explore, so most guests hire a car. Anguillians drive on the left. Roads are quiet and speeds are low, so it is an easy adjustment; give yourself the first few junctions to think about it, especially after a long flight. Roads are narrow, so take it slowly after dark, and goats have the right of way. A temporary local driving permit is required and the car hire company handles it for you. The villa has free gated parking for up to three cars.

Three things we wish we had known

• Bring less than you think. The villa has a fully equipped kitchen, a laundry room, beach towels and beach gear. You do not need to pack for self-sufficiency.
• Groceries first, then the beach. Ask us to have the villa provisioned before you arrive, or stop at one of the grocery stores on the way in. We will send you the list of the good ones.
• Ask us, genuinely. We would rather answer a question now than have you wrestle with a timetable at midnight. Think of us as your concierge for the journey.
