Yes, an Anguilla family vacation is easy to plan and easy to enjoy. Most of the island’s 33 public beaches have calm, shallow water, the island is only 16 miles long, and there are no cruise ports or high-rise hotels. Rent a car, pick a calm beach for small swimmers, and choose between a family-friendly resort and a private villa.
We are Leigh and Dave, and Villa Okeanos is our house on the hill above Shoal Bay East. This guide covers why Anguilla works for families, the beaches and things to do with kids, the resort-or-villa choice, and how our place fits a family or group.
Is Anguilla the best Caribbean island for families?
For a laid-back Caribbean vacation, it is hard to beat. Anguilla is known for beautiful beaches with white-sand shores and turquoise waters, and the island tourist board describes most of them as placid and calm with gentle shoals. Every beach is public. Distances are short, so nobody spends the week in traffic or queues, and beach days can start whenever the kids wake up.
It is a beach-and-water island rather than a theme-park one. If your children need rides and shows every day, a bigger island may suit you better. If they are happy with sand, snorkeling and a pool, Anguilla for families works very well.
Which beaches in Anguilla are best for kids?
- Shoal Bay East: shallow, clear water and an easy reef near shore. It ranked #6 on the World’s 50 Best Beaches list in 2026 and #1 in North America. Lunch is easy at a beach bar such as Uncle Ernie’s, right on the sand.
- Sandy Ground: calm, shallow water and a small playground on the beach.
- Meads Bay Beach: calm water on the West End. Blanchards Beach Shack serves burgers, hot dogs and fish tacos at picnic tables by the sand.
- Rendezvous Bay: turquoise water and wide, sandy beaches on the south coast.
Some beaches are not for little ones. Captains Bay has big waves and undertow, so save it for a look rather than a swim. For the full list, see the best beaches in Anguilla.
What are the best things to do in Anguilla with kids?
- Snorkel at Shoal Bay East. The reef is close to shore. We keep snorkel gear and beach gear at the villa.
- Take a private boat or water taxi to a cay. Sandy Island is about 10 minutes by boat from Sandy Ground and has a beach restaurant. Prickly Pear Cays is about 20 minutes north, with clear water, restaurants, beach chairs and snorkel gear on the island.
- Spend a day at Island Harbour. Local children jump and fish from the pier, and a short boat from the pier goes to Scilly Cay for lunch on Wednesdays and Sundays.
- Try water sports. Charter companies such as Calypso Charters, Tradition Sailing Charters and Shoal Bay Scuba run boat trips from the island. Some resort beach centers rent kayaks and boogie boards.
- See Little Bay from the water. A short boat ride from Crocus Bay reaches this cove under the cliffs. Strong swimmers and older kids can snorkel some of the best reef on the island.
- Visit Wallblake House. Built in 1785 in The Valley, it makes a short history stop for older children.

Anguilla family resort or private villa?
Several Anguilla family resorts run a kids club, which is the main reason families pick a hotel. These are the luxury resorts with kids programs we could confirm:
| Resort | Beach | For kids |
|---|---|---|
| Zemi Beach House | Shoal Bay East | Kids Club for ages 4 to 12, with a mermaid swim school |
| Four Seasons Resort and Residences Anguilla | Barnes Bay and Meads Bay | Complimentary Kids For All Seasons club for ages 4 to 11, plus a Sea Centre with snorkel gear, boogie boards and kayaks |
| Belmond Cap Juluca | Maundays Bay | Explorer’s Club for ages 4 to 12, with a toy library |
| Aurora Anguilla Resort and Golf Club | Rendezvous Bay and Merrywing Bay | Water park with slides and a lazy river, and a Greg Norman golf course |
A resort gives you a kid’s club, a spa, poolside service and in-room dining. A villa gives you plenty of room, a private pool, a fully equipped kitchen and no shared walls. With three couples and children, one house can work out cheaper per person than several rooms at the resorts in Anguilla. We set out the trade-offs in Anguilla villa vs hotel.
How does Villa Okeanos fit an Anguilla family vacation?
Villa Okeanos sleeps up to 11 across four bedrooms on three floors, with 3.5 bathrooms and 5,000 sq ft of space. It sits 150 feet above the bay, with views of the ocean, the Atlantic and St Martin. The beach is a 2 to 3 minute drive, with free parking near the beach bars.
| Room | Beds | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Primary suite (top floor) | King, ensuite, two private balconies | The couple who organized the trip |
| King Suite (main level) | King, ensuite, direct pool access | Grandparents who want to be closest to the pool |
| King Suite (main level) | King, ensuite | A couple |
| Kids Lounge (ground floor, 800 sq ft) | Two twin-over-full bunks and a queen sleeper sofa, smart TV and games | Up to 5 children or teens |
Three couples get a private suite each, with the children one floor down in their own room. The living area, dining area, bar, kitchen and patio open into one indoor-outdoor space, and the Napoleon gas grill handles a barbecue dinner on the terrace. There is a private pool, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a washer and dryer, and a backup generator that keeps the air conditioning and Wi-Fi running if the island power goes out. Remember there is no lifeguard at a private pool, so agree who is watching the children.
The nightly rate covers up to 8 guests, from $1,150 in low season to $2,300 in the festive season, and guests 9 to 11 add an extra-guest fee. The minimum stay is 5 nights. The 13% Anguilla Goods and Services Tax, a 10% staff service charge and a $475 departure cleaning fee are added at checkout. Current dates and rates are in our rates section.
Tips for your first trip to Anguilla with kids
- Traveling to Anguilla: fly direct to the airport (AXA) or fly into St. Maarten (SXM) and take the short ferry ride across. With children and luggage, the airport sea shuttle is easier than the public ferry. Our arrival guide covers both routes. The villa is 4.5 miles from the airport.
- Rent a car: Anguillians drive on the left, and the rental company arranges the temporary local driving permit. Go slowly after dark.
- Food: ask us to have the house provisioned before you arrive, so there is breakfast on the first morning. Chef menus can be arranged when you book.
- Medical care: Princess Alexandra Hospital in The Valley has an emergency department and a pharmacy. Bring regular medicines from home.
- When to go: the festive season books earliest. August to October is the peak of hurricane season. See the best time to visit Anguilla.
- Packing: bring less than you think. The house has beach towels, beach gear and a laundry room. See packing for a Caribbean villa stay.
